[i18n Package] I need volunteer for translating

Postby Kambiz » December 5th, 2010, 7:22 am

It took a long time to develop i18n Package, and it is not finished yet. However, the application for translating text is already finished and tested.

If you have time and interested in helping me in this project, please download the attached application (i18nHelper) and translate it to your own native language.

Here is the procedure:

  1. Open file i18nHelper.i18n in the application.
  2. Add your native language for translation:
    1. From menu, select Translation » Language » Add New Language or press Ctrl+L shortcut keys.
    2. From the list of languages, select the language you want to translate to, and press OK.
  3. Translate items to the newly added language:
    1. Select an item in the list.
    2. Fill the text area labeled Translation with the translation of the selected item.
    3. Navigate to the next item by pressing Ctrl+Down shortcut keys.
  4. Save the file.
  5. Attach the new i18nHelper.i18n file here.
To prevent duplicate works, please before starting to translate, drop a line here to tell others about the language you are going to translate the application to.

By the way, this application needs an English translator too. I am not a native English speaker, and for sure there are some mistakes in the original text of the application.

Thank you!

Thanks for the good news!

I began to translate file into Russian.
And noticed one small typo.
In the "File" menu instead of "Repoen" shall be "Reopen".

Thank you so much!

Fixed the typo and added two labels on the about box for the translator's name and address.

To update the i18n file, please open the old i18nHelper.i18n file (your Russian translations) and then import the new i18nHelper.i18n file.

Polish translation is finished. :) If I find any typo, I will update it.

After using your program, which is very convenient =D>, I think you should consider some improvements.

 Automatic spell-check would be very useful. You could use the dictionaries of the Mozilla Firefox/Thunerbird or of the OpenOffice.

 I miss the "Go to the next/previous untranslated item" and "Go to the next/previous not accepted yet item" navigation functions.

:-k I think that both '<DOMAIN>' and '<LOCALE>' should be untranslatable. Am I right?

:o Each time I open translation file, Persian translation is displayed. Probably this is because my translation file contains only Persian and Polish languages. The 'Persian' is lexicographically before the 'Polish'. In my opinion it would be more user friendly if the program will automatically display the language which was selected recently.

:!: In the 'SuggestionDialog' group probably you have typo. There is 'Please select the approperiate translation...'. Probably it should be 'Please select the appropriate translation...'

 In some languages perfect translation sometimes depends on number of elements. That is in Polish, but also in other languages. For example in English you can use following phrases:
    1. The translation repository contains 1 phrase.
    2. The translation repository contains 2 phrases.
In Polish such phrases should be translated differently, e.g.:
    1. Repozytorium tłumaczeń zawiera 1 zwrot.
    2. Repozytorium tłumaczeń zawiera 2 zwroty.
    3. Repozytorium tłumaczeń zawiera 5 zwrotów.
In my opinion this problem is well solved in the GNU Gettext for Delphi (look at the set of GetPluralForm... functions in the gnugettext.pas file).

Russian translation is finished.

Some suggestions:
  1. Search & replace with regexp
  2. Fuzzy search using Damerau-Levenshtein algorithm ;)
  3. Spellchecking & аutocompleting :)
  4. Deleting word in memo by pressing Ctrl-Del
  5. Skin support. SpTBXLib is very good candidate
  6. ... No limits for perfection :)

Thank you Grzegorz for both the translation and the valuable suggestions!

Translating of <DOMAIN> and <LOCALE> depends on the language. These texts appear in middle of a file name, and just because mixture of Latin and non-Latin scripts doesn't look good, I didn't translate them in Persian.

Spell-checking functionality is a must, however because the project has consumed lot of my time so far, I've decided to keep it for the next version of the package.

I agree with you about the plural forms. I should do something about it on this release of the package.

I added the new navigation functions, and also the last selected language for each file is persistent between sessions as of now.

Once again, thank you very much for your help!

Thank you very much data man for your interest in improving the application and spending time in translating it.

I'll add RegEx and fuzzy search as well as the spell checking feature in the next version of the package.

To clear the memo I have to find another key combination, because Ctrl+Del already assigned for deleting the definitions.

Thank you for speedy response

For more handy navigation, I suggest to alter the new navigation keys on Alt-Up/Down and Alt-Shift-Up/Down.
Or make a keys customizable.

I found logical error in the application. If I want to close modified file without saving it, application displays confirmation Do you want to save chages. If I choose No then file should be closed without saving it (modification will be lost). Currently both [No] and [Cancel] are acting the same way.

If I want to exit application, the problem is similar.

Thank you Grzegorz!

The problem occurs on a condition: closing the file when focus is on the translated text field (memo) and the text is just modified.

I fixed the problem, but didn't update the attachment on the first post yet.
