The problem is that most of the spammers are one-time visitors. They do the registration, post the spam and gone. I also believe that some of them are bots that automaticaly do the registration procedure. Do we have ant verification procedure during registration like activation mail, or fuzzy typed gif-strings that must be re-typed? (sorry, I can't remember what encountered during my registration).

Here are currently active anti-spam registeration methods:
  1. Visual Confirmation
  2. Live E-mail Verification (checks existence of the e-ail address)
  3. E-mail Activation
  4. Anti-Proxy Filter
But still some spammers spend time to pass these steps and post stupid messages.

Why don't you ask a technical questions about delphi? Small quiz while registering may useful. So site can detect real delphi programmers. :)

Yes, a Delphi Programmer can be a spammer and a none Delphi programmer can be a good member.

Some years ago I had a donation link on the site. The result was impressive, nobody clicked on it. :) I think nowadays the number of people willing to pay for software and information is less than before.

In other hand, there are some people who have no way to pay online. For example Iran residents cannot have PayPal account because Iran is under sanction. :?

I think idea of Johnny_Bit was good enough, because it's a couple of days that I didn't see a spammer here.

Hmm... you know what, I see that in member profile www spammers also post urls to bad sites, so may I present my list of users to be drown in pile of rotten elderberries after being beaten to uncounciousnes with uglystick?

here it is:
profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=761 (Brainpole, link to one of that "1000 of that ship for $whatever")
profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=742 (land rover, link to some "super someship for very unlittle", whole content blocked by my ad-blocker, so i quite can't figure out it...)
profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=740 (Larissochka, the girl seeking attention? she only posted link to her site, so... yeah whatever)
profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=697 (Mahaonius, link to catalog of links to nail-painting tingies for $)

(more to come... and why's only me posting mass info about spammers)

oh, is there's a ay to enforce users to actually have e-mail exosed to mods?

--------------------
profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=762 (Tij84ye, I see -censored-!!!)
profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=766 (DrLeila, links all over the place, zyrtec & shit)
--------------------
Guess who's newly created profile has spam links? guess no more! It's Miranda Swinton, profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=768 another spammr that likes to be beaten to rot using uglystick, what's more you ask? I tell you: there's no e-mail address to put spam on in that profile! That ICQ # doesn't even exist

I check also the profile of new user accounts 3-4 times a week, and I remove the suspicious accounts.

Johnny_Bit you are very serious against spammers. I think you are the best person for reporting abusers.

Wooh, I'm so serious about spammers, that if you'd put all spammers of the world in one preety timy place and send me there with blunt razor there woudn't be any spammer left.

Seriously in times when my gf gets 100+ of penis enargement spam daily, i get about 200+ breast enlagement daily and even my favourite forum isn't pure I'm not very keen about spam...

And another to blacklist!

Hmm... blacklist way is kinda borig for me + flustrating, how namu more will get in. If it wasn't for time it would take I'd propose ultimate resoution, just don't know whether this is possible in phpBB. That utimate thing would be high-level aproval, like user has to fill fields like in normal registraion, took norma steps etc, just in the end somebody wiling enough has to aprove his joining. Those who can aprove shouldn't be ony admin & mods because admin & mods (tm) have life, so let's say that respectable persons (let's say at least 90 posts + couple months on forums) are abe to aprove user, so whenever anyone registers and wits for apoval all respectabe members who are currently on-line are informed through a pop-up about that fact, they're supossed to read info about new user & accept one or deny. when denying put a reason, then reason gets to automatic filter and anyone trying the same trick will automaticly get polite message to -censored- off. also hardcode enabling showing mail & ive check it by newsletter or smth and don't forget about something like spam-assasin with configurable filter for both posts & registration.

wouldn't also hut to heve something lo track not only IP of posting but loging and registering also. ofcourse that thing goes bye-bye when user gets higher-level (like 10 post + couple weeks on foums) so not to monitor rightful men and women + remindr to users that you don't need acount to browse and read on this forum, so to not make huge list of bypassers

ps. This war-against spam is addictive, you want to have full control.. this stuff is bad for mind, and beause of that i say spam isn't good for food neither internet nor anything else, so it must end.
