The IDE is much faster than Delphi 2005. It was nice if installation of third party packages/components was allowed.

AFAIK, D2005 was a nightmare. D2006 with SP2 and hotfixes is stable and quite faster. Of course, Turbos are expected to be a litle bit faster since are single personalities of the BDS2006.

Regarding 3rd party components, a friend of mine said that he can use components of which he has the DCU file (I guess, compiled in BDS2006) but components are not available in designe time and must be initialized manually (with code).

I searched the web the other day and it seems that the explorer version is the same distributable as the Pro. They say that because upgrating from Explorer to Pro is possible (by buying the proper license). "Workarounds" are expected to bypass the component issue limitation. At that point, I think I'll give it a try.

You can use aditiona components, just not in designtime. That is whacked.

Installing Components in Turbo Delphi Explorer

Postby kokkoras » September 16th, 2006, 1:42 pm

Although I am still with D7, a friend of mine sent me a workaround on how to install 3rd party components in Turbo Delphi Explorer (win32), either in runtime or design time. I haven't tried it yet so proceed at your own risk.

It seems that the restrictions of the Exl0rer version have c011apsed...

edit:
Just installed TSimpleGraph in TurboD. BTW, the new procedure of TurboD for compenent installation is a bit different but after you get the idea looks quite straingforward and logical. Of course TSG compiled smoothly
